33rd ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems

ACM SIGSPATIAL 2025

November 3 - November 6, 2025
Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Call for Workshop Proposals

The ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems (ACM SIGSPATIAL) traditionally holds a day of co-located workshops on the first day of the conference. ACM SIGSPATIAL 2025 continues this tradition, and this year, SIGSPATIAL workshops will be held on November 3rd, 2025. The workshops have proven to be vibrant events, providing a focused forum for exchanging ideas and experiences, and they attract a significant majority of the conference attendees. Workshop proceedings are published in the ACM Digital Library.

In this call, we invite submissions of workshop proposals. The proposals should be submitted as PDF attachments, via an email sent to the workshop chairs: Yaron Kanza, Joon-Seok Kim, and Matthias Schubert, by May 2nd, 2025.

The expected duration of a workshop is a single half-day or a single full day, and all the accepted workshops will take place on November 3rd, 2025 at the venue of the main conference. Each workshop is expected to focus on a particular aspect of the field, with emphasis on emerging sub-areas of the field and topics that bridge the SIGSPATIAL community with other communities.

Workshops can take different forms, including:

  • Mini-conferences on key areas, with their own paper-submission and review process.
  • Mini-competitions or challenges on selected topics, with individual or team participation.

Registration for workshops will be combined with the registration for the main conference. The conference chairs will set the registration fees for the workshops – these fees are equal for all the workshops and are set at a minimum level, to cover costs of room rental, refreshments, and AV. No complimentary registration is provided to workshop organizers, keynote speakers, or any other person affiliated with the workshops. If workshop organizers wish to have invited speakers, any additional financial support must come from funds that are raised by the workshop organizers. Workshops are encouraged to recognize their best papers or presentations with awards, which can be announced at the conference banquet.

When composing the actual call for papers, workshop organizers are advised to explicitly mention that at least one author per accepted workshop contribution (paper, poster, demo) is required to register for the workshop (and the conference), and attend the workshop to present the accepted work. Otherwise, the accepted submission will not appear in the ACM Digital Library version of the workshop proceedings.

We encourage workshop organizers to pay attention to the diversity of the organizing committee and to support an inclusive event. In case of questions regarding this, please contact the workshop chairs or the DEI chairs of the SIGSPATIAL 2025.

Each workshop proposal should include information about the planned workshop, including the following details:

  • Workshop title. For consistency, the workshop title should be of the form “Nth ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on [multiple word topic] ([abbreviated topic] 2025)”. An example is “7th ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on AI for Geographic Knowledge Discovery (GeoAI 2025)”.
  • Short description of the topic and the format of the workshop.
  • Explanation of why the workshop is a good match with ACM SIGSPATIAL 2025.
  • Names and contact information of the workshop organizer(s).
  • Names of suggested members of the program committee (at least 50% must be already known and confirmed at the time of the proposal).
  • A short description of what has been done to increase or sustain diversity among the organizing committee.
  • A written confirmation from all organizers that they will register and attend the workshop, upon acceptance.
  • If available, for workshops that were held last year, please provide workshop statistics (include number of submissions, number of accepted papers, number of invited speakers, and estimated number of participants).

The acceptance/rejection decisions will be made by the Workshop Chairs in consultation with the SIGSPATIAL 2025 Executive Committee and the General Chairs, taking into account the capacity of the venue and relevance of the topic to SIGSPATIAL 2025.

Evaluation criteria include the overall quality of the proposal and the fit of the area to ACM SIGSPATIAL 2025. Notifications are expected to be sent within two weeks after the submission deadline, and no later than June 2, 2025

Organizers of accepted workshops will be responsible for the review process of their workshop. They will be responsible for creating the workshop web site and for the publicity of their workshop. Workshops may need to adhere to a general timetable, to facilitate catering. Workshop organizers should share with the Workshop Chairs statistics regarding the numbers of submissions and of accepted papers, as soon as these numbers become available. According to the number of submissions, the workshop may be reduced to a half-day format. All the organizers of accepted workshops must register to the workshop – otherwise, the workshop will be canceled.
